FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions

Please Note:
We do not write documents. We are correcting and editing your completed documents.

What is the difference between proofreading and editing?

Proofreading is the process of correcting surface errors in writing, such as grammar, spelling, punctuation and other language mistakes. Editing involves making changes and suggestions that will improve the overall quality of your writing, particularly in relation to language use and expression.

What is a scopist?

A scopist edits court reporter transcripts from official proceedings. Some reporters use a scopist before the proofreader. A scopist is familiar with court reporter software programs.

What happens if you don’t meet our deadline?

We guarantee we will meet the set deadline; we understand the need for speed as well as accuracy. If we are unsure about meeting the deadline, we will not take the project.

What if we need a project before the standard 48-hour return time?

It will depend on the size and complexity of the project. Different services would incur different types of rate increases. See our Rates page for more information.

Do you proofread and correct by the Chicago Manual?

Yes, we use the Chicago Manual of Style 16th Edition as a standard, but you can specify other styles if that is what you need. We are familiar with AP, MLA, and others. You can request a specific style on the project inquiry page.

What form of correction do you do?

We are familiar with the XODO annotation software, which is the Android version of iAnnotate. Microsoft Word Tracking is a popular tool preferred by many clients. Our preference is printing out a hard copy and hand-correcting. We will use the method you prefer. [Check the Resources page for a .pdf document of preferences the client will fill out to give us an idea of specific instructions.]
